ART OF BOARD REDEFINES MACY’S HERALD SQUARE INTERIOR WITH BOLD, ARTFUL SURFACES June 12 2015

The emerging brand’s recycled skateboard tile reinvents and elevates the shopping experience for New York City flagship store.

New York, NY (June 9, 2015) – Art of Board, a brand known for its one-of-a-kind, artisan tile surfaces, textiles and wall coverings inspired by skateboarding, has made their mark on the 114-year-old Macy’s on 34th Street with a colossal tile design installation made solely from used, recycled skateboards.

Blending Macy’s architectural legacy with contemporary design, the space comes alive with a riot of color and texture that takes retail design to a whole new level of storytelling – integrating texture and creating a tactile experience customers will never forget.

Hailed as one of Material ConneXion’s top five most innovative and green materials, according to Interior Design Media, Art of Board’s mesh mounted artisan wood surfaces wrap columns and adorn a large wall in the newly constructed American Rag brand space.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the Macy’s Herald Square remodel project,” said Rich Moorhead, President and Founder of Art of Board. “Herald Square is a New York City icon that exemplifies authenticity and we’re confident that our addition will help create a modern, customer centric shopping experience for the legion of shoppers and tourists that visit each day.”

Collected through Art of Board’s national skateboard recycling movement, I Ride I Recycle, the design sets an authentic and sustainable tone in the store’s American Rag space. The design includes 255 square feet of tile, which equates to approximately 220 recycled skateboard decks or 325 pounds of wood waste that otherwise would have gone to landfills.
